Vacuum Hose Replacement

I have to say I'm still pretty new when it comes to car maintenance, so forgive me if I sound stupid. But I'm always willing to learn and give things a try!

One of my vacuum hoses (at least that's what it looks like) has a big nasty crack in it, causing a vacuum leak. I fixed it with duct tape for a few days and that made the error code go away, but of course, duct tape doesn't last forever.

The hose is connected to the back/side of the where the Throttle Body attaches to, and goes all the way to the left side of the engine and plugs into a small box mounted to the wall. Both ends have a little plastic clip on the end that you have to push in before you can pull the hose off.

My question is, how can I identify what kind of hose this is so that I can order a replacement? Also, does anybody know what kind of connectors these are?

Just cut the hose off the plastic ends, and replace the hose with vacuum hose from any parts store.

Take off a good piece of the hose and bring it in the auto parts store to match up the ID or internal diameter that's how the hoses are sold

Since the hose you buy will not be stiff like the plastic original, use zip ties on the new rubber vac hose to secure it so it isnt close to any moving parts, the hot exhaust manifold, etc.

I just came across this thread, and this sounds like the same hose I'm talking about.

This is the black box that the broken hose connects to, mounted to the passenger side of the firewall.

thats your egr solenoid? i think the purge solenoid is elsewhere on my car at least. I was confused by your earlier post because when you mentioned the black "box" i was assuming you ment the main vacuum distribution manifold which had me confused. i went through a similar issue with the old vacuum lines btw.

i feel your pain with respect to finding ford part numbers... for what ever reason they seem to want to make this as hard as possible? moreover, many minor parts dont seem to be listed anywhere but the factory service manuals which can cost as much as like 100 bucks used.

yea man, you can just buy some vacuum hose from a parts store like autozone. Its not an ideal solution, but it works well enough, and its certainly cheap enough. just get some dorman barbed fittings and a dorman soft hose union connector to reconnect the hard tubing to the soft. the barb mates with the new soft tubing which then mates with the soft rubber union. the other end of the union(with the help of some silastic) should mate with the hard plastic line.

if you want a more factory fix, you can TRY and find a part called a "emission main vacuum line harness" or something like that... thing is though, they stopped selling those parts years ago for my car at least( 2000 taurus ohv.).

another alternative is to buy an identical ID nylon rigid tubing and dorman, "soft vacuum fittings" these are basically elbows and connectors that grip the OD of plastic tubing similar to that of the factory vacuum fittings. IMO the key here is to use a silastic glue similar to what ford did to keep these fittings snug and airtight.

for fittings that are salvageable... you can use an oring pick to try and remove the old glued in hose from the old vacuum fittings and reuse them with new glue.

these are the "soft" fittings im referring to btw. you will probably have to mix and match a few different kits but im sure you can get it done.

Thanks for all the replies! I ended up taking the connector off of the hose (it slipped right off), and taking it in to a parts store. I told them I needed emissions hose that was rated for high heat, and got a few feet of that. Cost about $5/per foot.

I slipped the hose on to both ends of the existing connectors, re-routed the hose a little, and everything works and the code cleared!
