Can anyone help? Yesterday evening I pulled in my driveway put the car in park and heard a Ticking or Tapping noise coming from the engine compartment. At first I thought it was the water pump as I got out of the car to open the hood. Then getting closer to the engine it wasn't the water pump the noise sounds like it is coming from the back vavle cover maybe the camshafts chain or a valve lifter (tappet). The motor is a 1998 Duratec with 156,220 miles. The car was quite and smooth it is still smooth but execpt the the ticking or tapping noise.I've had no problems at all with this motor.Has anyone had the same problem or noise? Any comments or suggestions would be helpful! Thanks in advance and HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all. :ford

Okay! I checked the oil and it is good it's where it's suposed to be. I change the oil every 3,000 miles give or take 200 miles. I use 5w30 Quaker State highmileage oil. NO lights have illuminated! I started the car this morning to move it out of the driveway and no ticking or tapping. I guess it starts when the car gets warmed up.I will run it tomorrow to find out for sure.I was guessing the timing chain tensioner , valve tapped , valve rocker. I will know and learn more as I look in to it more. Thanks for the advice. :ford:
