It is possible. DuraSEL has a writeup on how to do it, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it in search...

 

Basically, you swap switches from your current radio to the CD radio. One of the switches requires you to temporary remove the radio faceplate to gain access to the tabs that fasten the switch. The face plate is held by four screws from the back. Once the switches are installed, make sure the harnesses are all tightly connected before reinstallation.

You don't need the adapter...just follow the instructions above. In essence, you are putting the controls from the 2000 tape deck radio, and putting them in place of the 02's controls. That way you have HVAC control and your CD player.

 

There is no adapter. You don't have to buy anything. Instructions are in the links I posted. The plugs on the back of the faceplate are integrated to a module inside the radio that the knobs controls. Just remove the modules from the '00 radio and put them into the '02 radio. They are separate from the CD and tape player so you can easily swap them.
