I'm looking at a 93 SHO tomorrow and the dealer says it has charging problems. After he told me that he said it just needs a new battery, but I suspect it is more. Are there any common things that go wrong that I can look for?

The car has been at their lot for at least 4-5 months and was heavily discounted from $7000 to $4000 last week and this week to $2000.There must be a problem that he couldnt figure out with the electrical/charging system.

Don't trust this guy who is trying to sell it. It started out at $7000 for a '93, and it has issues??? You would think he would throw in a new battery, even a cheap one, to help sell it if that's all that's needed. Tell him to install a battery and let you test drive it for a day. Look for signs of flooding or it being wrecked. Best thing would be to let a mechanic check it out and do a title search at carfax.com.

I will check out the file he says he has on the car, especially a damage check. There isn't much in the way of SHO's in my area lately except for a couple that need tranny's and the guys are asking a ridiculous $3000 for them.

How many miles on this car? If it's a charging problem I would start with the alternator and do a voltage test. IMO I wouldn't be looking at this car anyway, if he's not willing to fix the problem beforehand I wouldn't be willing to buy the car.
