tried powersliding through a curve the other day coming back from work...caught ice and plowed straight into a ditch....the snow absorbed the impact so theres no damage and luckely for me a guy drove by in his 4x4 (a 2 door tracker...lol) and had rope on him and pulled me out...funny thing is he its like an 89 and he paid 100$ for it yet even though i was so deep in the ditch my rear wheels werent touching the ground he managed to pull me out.... :D
man am i lucky, was about to call up a bunch of friends to help me push it out...
moral of the story: if you own a taurus...wagon in particular, dont try powersliding
360's in icy parking lots if dam fun though....if only my handbrake wasnt a pedal handbrake :(

The real moral of the story is not to powerslide on anything when there's ice or snow. It makes no real difference whether you're in a Taurus or a 4wd vehicle. Four wheel drive might give you traction in certain circumstances, but on ice, it's usually just as bad as FWD.

Oh come now. I spent about an hour and half with a friend in a subdivsion powersliding every corner. Finaly ended right after i said "doesnt feel like im in "the zone" anymore." cliped a snowbank which threw the front end in. Just last week i powerslide corners on a dirt road. Do this stuff everyonce in awhile. Never busy roads though. Most of the fun is done in the empty mall parking lot or something of the sorts.

I myself think its an easy car to slide. Ice i never do it on cuz yea, it doesnt like to give your tires grip. But any snow works, and its fun. Have chapstick behind the parking brake release so i use that :D . Winter tires in the front and my worn out ones from a bad alignment in the back. When im driving seriously, yea, it gets interesting. But when im playing its way hella fun! Did it all last winter. I do admit though i got stuck 4 times. once was black ice, twice was goofing around and once was just normal ice. tow truck on the black ice, and other times was 4x4 stoping and pulling me out.

BUUUUUT i dont drive a wagon, so id expect it to be a bit harder to handle due to the extra weight back there. None-the-less, i think its fun and easy with my sable.

goes the gen3 and 4 have the auto park break release? my gen 2 wagon does. it works great for starting a power slide. just stomp it down and release when the car starts to wiggle.

No, he's right about the auto-release. It automatically releases when the gear selector is put in drive. G1/G2 still have the lever to release manually. I believe only GM has the pedals where you press it down once to set and push it again to release.

If I understand, in my car Im obliged to pull the lever to remove the handbrake ? damn !!

My 92LX and my 95 SHO have the auto release park brake. So it appears that some gen IIs do actually have it.

Learn how to left foot brake properly and you don't need a handbrake or footbrake to do donuts in a FWD car. I always amaze people with this technique. They'll tell me "no way man, not in a FWD car." I just show them they're wrong. "How'd you learn to do that", they'll ask. "Rallying", I'll answer. It's amazing how racing (with the exception of drag racing, I'll venture) inproves your car control in non race environments. Before I started racing I always thought I was a damn good driver. Turns out I wasn't. If you try this and you've never left foot braked before, make sure you're seatbelt is on or you'll come close to popping your head through the windshield. This is especially true if you've only ever used your left foot on a clutch.

I know G2s have it. What I meant is that they also have the manual release lever in addition to the auto-release.

When my Gen4 was in the shop, the warranty provided me with a rental. I had at my disposal a brand new Ford F-150 Quad Cab with a V8 under the hood. I hadn't been able to play with a rear wheel drive vehicle. I left a friend's house just after a light rain had passed by. I pulled out onto the road, straighten up and just slammed on the gas. I was probably only going about 20 mph but the speedometer said I was doing 55.

I took my friend to HEB so she could get some groceries. There was next to nobody parked in the parking lot so it became my playground. I was sliding all over the place out there and had a blast doing it.

It didn't matter what the weather conditions were like. Every turn I went around I squawled the tires and would get all kindsa sideways. Probably wasn't much tread left but I let Enterprise worry with that.

I really liked that truck but at $40k I think I will pass.
