When Ford killed the name, they made it a full size platform and called it the Ford 500. They thenn rebadged it the "new" Taurus, and here we are.

 

nah, it never did. The taurus is dead. It only lives on in the veins of guys like us (well, mines totaled, parted off, and probably apart of several Tauri now). The original Taurus never came back, but they knew it was a mistake so they just took another car and added the name.

 

The name had plenty of brand equity and I can see why Ford is putting the name in a positive light. It ain't a DN101/D186 anymore, but at least the name is around.

 

People still seem to like that car as I do see them on the road once in a while.

 

Still a Taurus, so it's not on the DN101/D186. So they updated it a bit, made it a little bigger, gave it a better engine, a transmission that may not take a shіt after 100k miles, gave it Sync. Platforms change all the time. Bіtch and moan all you want, but in the end, it's still an amazing car built by Ford, and apparently doing well. Should be so pissed at Ford, making things better. Like getting rid of that 3.0L Vulcan with it's slow Pushrod technology lol

 

It is my belief that everyone who owns and enjoys a Taurus is a bit of a masochist. Anything having to do with the gen1-4 cars seems to bring great pain and anguish but yet we get a twisted sense of satisfaction out of it. Is the new Taurus a Taurus? Yes it is. Is it a traditional Taurus? No it's not because even though it's new it doesn't seem to be broken from day one.

 

I agree, the new Taurus is a new animal, but I think its still a Taurus.

 

IMO, alot more expensive than the previous gen 4 models.

 

I like it and I used to build Tauruses, from the old DN-5 to the DN 101 and D186.( Bull Geek knows what those mean) The new SHO is a mean ride and the regular Taurus is a nice car. I remember all the gnashing of teeth when we switched from the DN5 to the DN101,( very little is interchangable) Now that platform ran on for 12 years with little changes. Give the new Platform a chance, y'all might like it.

But, there will always be people who want a car to live on forever with little changes.

From what I have driven, Escort has become Focus, slightly bigger though, Contour has become more inline with Fusion, and Taurus is Taurus, but replacing the Crown Vic.

But each car has been becoming gradually bigger, it was only a matter of time for the Taurus to go from Midsize to fullsize. Even then, driving a Gen5/6, still feels inline with the Taurus.

 

IMO the Taurus spirit lives on in the Fusion. The Taurus was Fords main stay midsizer that the Fusion is today. So does the Taurus live on in name yes but with a different mission. The spirit of the original Taurus now lives in Fusion IMO.

 

The Ford Taurus and the Mercury Sable were originally affordable family sedans. I wouldn't say the new Taurus is "affordable". IMO, it's a whole different class of vehicle. Yeah, I like it, but that's not the question.

 

I really like the new Taurus. Yes it is a little bit bigger car but I think that is a good thing now that I have two kids.

 

I don't see the new Taurus as an exact replacement for the previous generations. That position has been taken by the Fusion. That said, the new Taurus is the true replacement(image-wise) for what the Taurus originally represented for Ford. The Detroit News posted a good editorial on this topic today.
