Alright this is my first topic on this forum.

Well anyways, I have a 2001 Taurus ses. Everything under the hood is stock performance wise.
I want to get an original 40 series flowmaster installed so it can just sound more aggressive.
i want it to pretty much be like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t20xxp-sbvI...&feature=iv
Is there any cons i should know before doing this?
This is the only thing i want to do under the hood i suppose.
the rest will be just for looks/sound audio

Flowmaster offers a stainless option in the 44 series. Possibly 40 series, too. B)

EDIT: yep, 40 series, too.

I ran an American Thunder Flowmaster 40 in my Vulcan..

Back at you, brotha. Now send me homemade beer!

The 40 series isn't bad but you will have a LOT of drone in the car once it breaks in. I'm thinking about getting my exhaust redone and am looking at getting a Flowtech Afterburner (or 2 if I go with a dual exhaust).

Here's a vid of my car with a Flow 40:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/U3iBXhiZAG0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/U3iBXhiZAG0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Here's a vid of an Afterburner:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nY83nbdBQnA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nY83nbdBQnA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

And if you do go with a Flowmaster (or any 'performance' muffler for that matter,) paint it! Or else it will paint itself in rust.

Wow. i REALLY like how that afterburner sounds. its a lot deeper then the just 40 series. How much would that set me back?
Also, what do you mean by ill get drone in the car once it breaks in?
i heard that its supposed to get louder after it breaks in but idk what drone is?

I've seen anywhere from $30 - $50 for the Afterburner on various sites. I'm not sure if he did anything else to his car to get that sound (all I can find is the muffler).

As for drone, it's just a loud hum inside the car. Mine's loudest between 1200 - 2200 RPM. So when I have the engine in that range I get a loud, deep hum inside the car. It can be especially annoying when on the highway. A Flowmaster with delta flow would be quieter inside.

I see. Is the drone really loud or just loud enough to notice? Because if its like that then i might as well go with the delta flow if it doesnt set me back too much. Do you know how much that might be?

Im really liking that afterburner though. It sounded really nice

Google is your friend.

Just search for the muffler you're looking for (here's a hint, 2.25" offset inlet/2.25" offset outlet, 40 series delta flow, or 40 series stainless), and the size you'd want. 14" long is what most people go with. An 18" long muffler body is about the longest that will fit in the stock location.

Flowmasters range from around $50-100. Let the searching begin!

If you're a performance nut like me, that hum is NOTHING. You get used to it if you REALLY love the sound it makes. After a few weeks it doesn't bother you. In my Taurus I was still able to listen to my music, and carry on a conversation without having to raise my voice. Although, It may have been because my American Thunder 40's sound topped out at 3000 RPM.

Above 3000 rpm, your intake was so angry, that it started tearing holes in the time-space continuum.

We found Jose's stainless flowmasters on either jegs or summit racing.

I've been trying to solve this puzzle for quite some time, maybe you guys can help me out, throughout this website and youtube, I've seen so many vids with Taurii that have Flowmaster 40, but they all sound DIFFERENT!!!...Most sound like ricers or a swarm of bees and the occasional cool V8 Mustang like rumble sound which I'm looking for. Angrod's taurus has a killer sound (video above), even with the Flowmaster 40 because it has that V8 rumble and not that fart can crap (lol) and also this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2d8P1lpnmk...feature=related ...which is probably a 40 series just in the magnaflow.
So my question is essentially, is there a certain way or setup that will give a deep V8 rumble (ex: 3rd cat delete, keep or take out resonator..etc) and ive seen the variations in the flowmaster 40, from what i concluded, the american thunder or delta force seem to give more rumble. Your input is appreciated :)

F.Y.I. I have a Vulcan

#23 ·
Forgive me for being blunt, but if you want the v8 rumble, buy a v8 Taurus (or other v8 equipped vehicle).

The vulcan sounds nice, but there is no question it's a 6-cylinder. Keeping the resonator helps. Removing the 3rd cat makes it just a bit louder, and might give you the aggressive sound you're looking for. A decently sized flowmaster will help to keep the rasp and harsher tones under control.

Did someone say V8? B)

x2 on the information posted here. I would personally keep the resonator (you can remove it later if you want) and try that.

Then the video you posted is the latest.

I can personally tell you from owning it and driving it (with the inlet backwards) The sound is AWESOME. Pulling up at a redlight turned heads for sure, and pulling away I had alot of people keep up and roll their windows down just to hear it. Mark has had the courtesy of me doing some fly by's for him.

I absolutely LOVED how the car sounded when in drive, and idling.. it had a deep rumble to it and a slight camming sound to it that made it sound 100% american muscle.

Boy how I miss that car... :(
