I have a '08 Taurus SEL, 249k, been a trooper for 4 years, recently I've changed both(front) CVs and wheel hub... I have a persistent cyclical clack, coming from what I believe is the transmission, where the inner shaft is seated.

There's a heavy drone when engaging reverse and drive(ONLY)
Neutral, when accelerated, feels like it's still engaged, as if it's trying to lurch forward

From inside, it sounds and feels like Someone is using a cheese grater to shave aluminum, I can feel it in the pedals.

From outside, It literally sounds like rotor rub. I've gone through to make sure that wasn't the case( I had high hopes it was)...
"Wrong, sir!"

There's a small amount of "rotational play" in the cv both directions, clockwise and counter. To measure I'd say "1 click on a radio dial" amount and I can produce the noise "I can feel".

My question/s;

• Does the front driver axle pair to the transmission itself, or the PTU?!?!

• Is there a bearing/seal that might've failed?

• Did I misalign inner splines?

• Is the PTU toast?

•Is the transmission toast?

My forum search continues; but so far I can't find a relatable thread.

Edit'11:44 only lights shown are ABS and Traction control.

Thank you for your patience!

* Will try to post video axle movement and noise after work*
