I want to cut out the resonator and run a 2.25" pipe and then split the pipe by the axle and run two 40 series Flowmasters out the back. I want my car to have a nice quality muscle car sound but I don't want it to be extremely loud. Would this be too loud?

If he cuts out the resonator, and keeps the cats in place, that would be considered a cat-back system.
If you keep stock pipe size, keep your resonator. It helps keep the sound cleaner and kills off some rasp. If you increase the pipe size, consider running a new resonator as well. If not, with 2 flowmasters out back, you shouldnt have to worry about it being too loud at all, granted you still have all of your catalytic converters on there.
