Working on my dad's car (not a Taurus owner myself), just found that the timing cover is leaking coolant pretty profusely. He thought it was the water pump leaking at the gasket at first until we had some stuff out of the way to see better. So I'm trying to do this for him to save some cash. The big holdup seems that it'll be getting the crank pulley and balancer off. I don't have an air impact, but I'm thinking about going to get a DeWalt electric (120v) impact tomorrow. That appears to deliver 345lb-ft. Will that be likely be enough to handle the job?
Going to get a quote from a shop tomorrow, in case its not THAT bad, but kinda on a tight budget. I can at least have it torn down to this point where the shop could take off some labor.
Oh, also kinda important, this thing has 260k miles. Original timing chain. How easy is that to replace and do I need some info to be sure everything stays in time? If I'm in there I'd feel bad to not replace it and something happen soon.
Thanks for the help!
