A quick recap, for those that missed it the first time. My '01 SES Duratec had the '401' code come on. I figured it wasn't an EGR valve issue, since the car was functioning fine. So, I inquired on the board about the DPFE sensor, and how difficult it might be to replace it myself. I received some great feedback (and even a schematic!), so I figured I could probably pull this off myself.

Well, $30.02 at the dealer, and about TWO minutes later, and my old DPFE sensor was in the garbage! The sensor is about at the midway point of the engine compartment, very close to the firewall. It snaps on, and connects up in a hurry. I ran the car over to AutoZone and had them reset the CEL, and I'm all set. The best part was that my mechanic wanted $80 for the sensor, and another $72 to install. The way I see it, I spent $30 on the part, and now can spend another $120 on some more detailing supplies.

Thanks again for all the help....this forum rocks!

Could they have lowered the price of the same sensor in different gen's that much? I have a gen III and I think that I mihgt need to replace this not my EGR valve (Insufficient EGR Flow...1401 I think). Anyhow, I sure hope it's only $30 and not $75. I guess the only place I can get it is the stealership huh?

100th post and counting...

Ict_Lx - many sensors are available aftermarket. The code you have is for the DPFE sensor, and replacing it will fix the problem. See if you can grab a sensor from an aftermarket supplier, swap it in, and clear the code, and you're all set.

Every parts store I have checked show after 99 to be a Dealer item.
