Hello everyone, got a SES light a few days ago and just stopped off at autozone to have them read. Results were

P0401 EGR flow insufficient
P0402 EGR flow excessive

The guy at AZ thought it sounded like the EGR valve might need to be replaced. Any other things I should check before I dump any money into this?

Thanks

Is the DPFE sensor what Autozone calls the "EGR Valve Pressure Sensor," or is it something else?

You are getting the correct part just the nomenclature is different and the guy behind the counter wouldn't know what DPFE stands for anyway. I asked on Saturday and got, duh...........

As you may be able to tell from my earlier post in this thread, my '96 Taurus was throwing the P0402 code not even a year ago and I replaced the DPFE sensor then. Today the CEL came on again and guess what? P0402. Should I look at the DPFE sensor again or what? Could this be something else?

I have a P0401 code too and I believe I have to change this senor but
how much force do you put on this sensor to remove it ? :noes: Mine seems to be on those two tubes pretty good ! :angryfire: Thanks for any info :thumb:

You can make sure the ports on the exhaust tube where the silicone hoses go to the DPFE sensor are open, same for the EGR valve at the intake manifold.[/b]
I repalced the DPFE on both my cars. I soaked the old unit and hoses with silicone spray. I let it soak in and carefully loosened both hoses with a wide screwdiver blade. It worked perfectly on both, no damage to any of the hoses. Be generous with the silicone and spray the hoses again after you break their original seal on the DPFE.
