You could have air in the lines. Check for small leaks in your lines. I don't know why it would be more stiff, unless your brake booster is going.

Well, I'm still not sure what the problem was, but I've gotten more information. I don't even have to press the brake pedal for the light to come on. Today I was driving on campus and we have about 20 speed tables. I was driving over one and since I was going slow (about 5mph) I didn't bother hitting the brake at all. Coming off of the table, after my back wheels had come off the light came on, this happened a few times (I tested it out). Any Ideas?

 

Anyone else have any ideas?

 

Manually release your parking brake and pull it into its normal position.

My daughter came home friday saying her brake light was on and I got in it and noticed the lever was not in it's released position.

Check for a parking brake switch that needs readjustment.

 

Your pads are worn and the fluid level has dropped because the pistons now are out further.

 

Make sure the brake fluid is full in the reservoir. If it's low enough, it'll cause the light to come on as the fluid level changes during braking/cornering/driving on off-level surfaces. And if the fluid is low, check your brakes for wear. Also possible that the float in the reservoir is sticking, and sits low enough to trigger the light.

 

I had a very similar problem. Everytime I came to a complete stop or went over a speed bump, my parking/warning brake light came on. I couldn't figure out what was wrong till I found my front pads were low. I changed those bad boys out and the light has not come on by it self since.

 

Same here... i noticed it getting worse and worse, finally changed the pads, and topped off the fluid and it went away

 

You should always flush out the old fluid and add new when doing brakes. Not just topping off or bleeding the caliper.

This will eliminate any brake cylinder or performance problems later.
