I figured asking this question on the SHO specific forums would be a blood bath and I'm guessing about the same for the Duratec crowd. I respect what can be done with both engines. I will be installing it in a middy setup in the rear of a car, so the swap is equally difficult.
I'm interested in the general opinion of the potential of each motor NA or on boost. I have looked at the SHO for many years and I know it well enough that I'm comfortable with its performance. I'm honestly shocked by its weight, and thats where my interest in the Duratec comes in...
I have yet to find exact weights of each engine fully dressed, or even block and head weights, but from what I have read the Duratec is in the high 200's, and If I recall the SHO is over twice that.
I know the MTX75 can be mounted to the Duratec and is a VERY strong Trans. vs. the unit used in the SHO's have a much lower HP limit.
I know both engines will produce a ton of power on boost, but you don't see to many N.A. builds of Duratec's & from what I have found the SHO is maxed out N.A. at around 220-230 WHP, I'm not sure of the Duratec's potential in NA form except factory spec.?
This 3.5L block is very pricy, but shows what can be done on the duratec side.

I think both engines have high red lines, and they both are rather expensive to build compared to a V8. The project I'm working on was designed for the SHO, but If I could turbo a duratec and keep it at around the same weight as a NA SHO, I'm leaning towards a Duratec. or just go high rev. NA in a Duratec and save the weight...
