Hi,
The brakes on my 2013 taurus were making a scraping noise at low speed, vibrating at high speed and pulsating with only 25K miles, after reading post on this site decided to order rear rotors & pads. Changed them a few days ago and my brakes feel like when the car was new, did nothing to the front. I bought front pads but decided not to put them on.
I have a 2.0 ecoboost motor, was getting about 30 mpg overall, this morning got 33 driving about 150 miles. Not sure if the rear brake job helped my mpg.
I attached a picture of the old OEM rotors, both inner surfaces were rough, inner pads wore down more than the outer.
I think the OEM rotors have poor quality metal, rust in the cast iron. Any comments?
My new f150 rotors are similar, they rust quickly...
Bought centric premium rotors ($34 each), wagner quick stop pads for rear ($19), front ($28) and a Lisle 28600 brake dice tool ($6.83). Total $113 from rockauto.com.
I've put the wagner quick stop pads on two of my F150's and have had good results.
Not sure about the centric rotors, picked them since the shipping was low, $11.
Last time I put brakes on my 2011 f150 I bought raybestos advanced technology rotors for the front, good quality rotors. Had 15k miles on them when I traded the truck.
I put 4 centric sloted rotors on my 2008 f150, they would turn orange overnight in the summer from humidity & night dew. not to mention corrosion from the winter salt. Not happy... That was some time ago.
Has anybody tried the centric slotted or drilled rotors, they sell for premium bucks. They advertise "power alloy metallurgy" which I think is adding chromium & nickle to the cast iron. Should not rust.
Jerry
