hmmm should be interesting next few months...

I love how the speedometer gauge says "TAURUS" in the middle... I always loved being reminded what kind of car I was driving in my G2 (the little Taurus badge on the passenger side dashboard)... Sad the G3/4s didn't share anything like that!

Also, I was driving behind an MKS today and I can't believe how similar the rear ends are! The exhaust Y pipes and lower bumper look EXACTLY the same! And the MKS also has that black trim on the bottom to make it look thinner...

I'm assuming that part of this test is an older design of the interior....the newer interior shots (spy) of the standard Taurus show P R N D M while this doesn't.... :glare:

I don't think Ford would put manual-auto controls in their base cars but not their high end SHO

As a purist, I'd love to see a stick, but as a realist, I think ATX is fine for this type of car. Semi-luxury sporty sedan. Paddle or "tiptronic" style 6spd automatic.

It's difficult (and expensive) to build a MTX capable of handling 350hp in a FWD/AWD platform.

I was just on Ford.ca and a 2009 Ford Taurus Limited is $41000 CAD... I hate to use profanity but, are they f**king kidding!!!?? I pray to god that the SHO isn't anywhere near that!!! Alan Mulally wants to make the new Taurus a car that brings people that have owned Tauruses in the past back in to the dealership... I don't think there is anyone in the world who has ever owned a Taurus in the past, who can now afford a $41000 car!! Anything (ANYTHING!!!) over $30000 is a complete pipe dream to me, so looks like I'm SOL!

The '98 SHO was $30k USD on the showroom floor in '98. By today's exchange that makes a $41k CAD vehicle $33.7k USD.... I'd say that's a bargain, considering inflation, quality, and feature upgrades/improvements over the last 10 years. You can't blame Ford for Canada's dollar value.

Believe me, the prices weren't much different when the CDN dollar was higher than the US dollar a year ago. BTW, the bottom model is $31000. Fusion's start at around $20000 and that is what the Taurus used to be 10 years ago so explain that...

Inflation? :dunno:

You take a look at what 20k could do for you in 1998 compared to what it can do for you now, and ask that question again.

Not to mention that the 2009 Taurus is a far, far cry from what it was in 1998.

*edit*
The base model comes in at $25k... I still fail to see the gripe.

1999 Crown Victoria LX retail price: US$23,925
2009 Taurus SE retail price: US$24,125

They're similarly equipped.

Bring the '99 CV to $27K with all the options that are standard on the '09 Taurus Limited, and its $29,425 MSRP doesn't look very out of line.

I never said the Taurus today is what the Taurus was yesterday or that the pricing should be the same for a car with alot more features... I'm saying that it is alot of money for a car! Money that I don't have!

The Vic used to have very stripped down versions... I'm not so sure with this new Taurus... Looks like it is going to come fully loaded (atleast here where I live (Canada)... No such thing as a 2009 Taurus "SE" here).

$20000 could buy me a base Fusion. It could have bout me a median-to-high Taurus in 1998. I don't care what anyone says, inflation does not account for $2000 a year!

WTF? Where does $2K a year come from?

People have posted the facts. Either you fail to understand them or you're just fishing for more reasons to bitch about the car since it's abundantly clear that you're pissed off at Ford because the Ford you want doesn't say "Taurus" on it anymore.

Then don't buy one.

Well... not to be the pisser here, but, it's a dashboard mock-up. Designers can add or subtract badges (and often do) when something is in preproduction, like the entire car. It's an accent piece, not an engineered part.

Now, before you crucify me on the altar of SHO. I don't see any real reason why they would NOT bring this back, given the attention they have given the SHO community, i.e., the focus groups, leaked shots, powertrain rumors... I'm just saying. :dunno: Read with caution - I'm cautiously optimistic. I want to see this done, but until I see a production car with the badges...

350hp/tq in an AWD turbo package with four doors REALLY brings some creditability back to this brand's sporting image.
