I have a strange problem. Sometimes when I turn the key nothing happens, yet when I push down on the distributor it fires right up. At first I thought it would be either the starter or switch, but after thinking about it. I'm kinda thinking its a problem with the distributor. What does anyone here think. It's a 1993 Ford Taurus with a 3.0

Exactly what does "nothing happens" mean? No crank or crank no start? If you mean crank no start, be sure plug wires, especially center one from coil, is firmly seated in dist, is not damaged, and no corrosion present. Also check TFI connector for corrosion / pushed out pins / damage.

sounds like you need to see if the cap is tight.

by nothing i mean i turn the key and the only thing that happens is the fuel pump turns on. the engine doesnt do anything. and the cap is on tight ive made sure of that.
