I'm going to change my Moms trans. fluid & filter this weekend in her '03 Taurus ses. I've got a case of Coastal multi-purpose DexMerc trans. fluid. Will this work in a trans. that takes mercon v?

No. Dexron III/Mercon is not compatible with Mercon V.

Stocker's right...don't put Dexron III/Mercon in a transmission that calls for Mercon V.

You can put Mercon V in a trans that calls for original Mercon (it's back-spec'd) but NOT the other way around.

Only if it states anywhere on the bottle "Meets Mercon V requirements", othwise don't use it, take it back.

Looking at Coastal's website, I don't see any Mercon V compatible lubes. However, I have a couple bottles of Coastal Synthetic Multi-Vehicle trans fluid in the garage.... it says in big red letters across the bottom of the front label "approved for Mercon V"
