First of all, I think my Taurus is a great car. I was just curious why everyone here is in their Taurus or Sable? Even though it doesn't do anything in outstanding fashion, I like the Taurus because it is an all around good, comfortable, solid car, especially for the money. Plus its a Chicago-built Ford and I don't have the guilt of driving a foreign-name car like I did when I had my '01 Accord V6 even though that car was built in Marysville, OH (that my sister now drives). Those are some reasons I like my Taurus.

In my short time of reading/participating in these forums, I've found a lot of people who are dedicated to these cars, who make due with the limited aftermarket parts/accessories by engineering their own mods, etc. A lot of hours have been spent by some of you making your cars stand out.

So, of all the cars out there, why have you chosen the Taurus or Sable?

Well you stated the reasons why I want a Taurus/Sable. Ive test driven numerous from all gens except the 1st generation. I have yet to drive a Duratec at length but anywho. I have researched and found these vehicles to be as quoted by you " all around good, comfortable, solid car, especially for the money." Don't forget, there is a factory in Atlanta that makes the Sable and Taurus, called the Hapeville plant. B)

We needed a bigger car then an Escort Wagon so we bought this Sable. I have been very happy with it so far. :)

It was my 98 taurus or a 96 Lumina. The lumina was a weird burgandy/marron color and just seem like an old man's car (no offense to anyone out there that drives a weird burgandy/maroon 96 lumina...)

I got my car because it was just perfect for me. I always loved the lightbar on the Sables. Plus it's very safe and it's cheap to maintain, insure, and drive.

 Oh man... there's this old guy at work who is aptly named "grandpa" who drives exactly the car you described!

I bought my taurus because it fit my criteria. It wasn't too expensive, it had a v6, it had a big trunk, it had 4 doors, it had great a/c & I have had previous experience with the vulcan so I knew it would last a looooooonnnnggg time. Not to mention I like the oval thing. Compared to the competition ( I looked at a few Intrepids, Malibus and a few other cars) I liked the interior of the taurus. I especially love the curvy rear seat area. Most of the other cars I looked at had / have boring rear seats that look really cheap, IE the flat plywood with cushion affixed to it, look. Oh yeah and it's an American car built in America (mine specifically here in chicago :p ) So there you have it.... those are my reasons.... :D :p

I like it for those reasons and because it's cheap, safe, reliable and just an all around great car IMO. :)

I guess I like my Taurus for all those reasons and I have alot of happy memories that involve the Taurus. Growing up we always had at least one Taurus and I learned how to drive in one. They are very comfortable, safe and easy to drive. In the snow, theres nothing better than a Taurus or Sable. I know some of these cars are considered lemons but my Tauruses/Sables have always been there for me when I needed them. To me the Taurus/Sable is everything a car should be. :thumb:

We went car shopping for my wife, and she specifically wanted a Taurus. She liked the Gen 3 body style (although I had no knowledge about them, I was a Chevy guy before this car).

We looked at a lot of different mid size sedans, and the Taurus was the only newer one that had 6 passenger capability in a sedan that we liked.

Plus all the reasons listed above. We still love the car (most days :p), but we've now outgrown it. The kiddos are getting bigger, and we don't fit as well as we did 5 years ago.

I bought my Sable back in 2003. I chose it cause it seemed to have a well and strong motor. Come to find out that the Duratec Motor is really well-round! I love the way it rode (now with eibachs and kybs). I didnt plan on going into the performance scene with it... but then I found this group. I found Bob, I found Dan, I found the rest of you. Now I cant get enough!

I produce a cold air intake for the Sable. And have a $4000 dollar project on the vehicle. Performance and Exterior Modifications. I cant wait to show you all when I am done. Well... I love this car, for all the reasons you all have listed (especially Brad's "Baby SHO") I hope you all have as much fun with your Taurus'/Sable's as I am!

My mom wouldnt let me get a mustang, despite the fact there was a black 99 GT with gold accents on the lot RIGHT next to the car I eventually ended up getting. The mustang was the same price, with about 20K more miles, but it wasnt my call in the end <_<

I had always loved the SHOs from about age 14 when i first started getting 'into' cars, and I jumped at the chance to get a duratec taurus, so I ended up with my white SEL. I am pretty happy with the results, its been a very reliable car.

In fact, most of my neighborhood drives ford. Its kinda funny. I should start offering my services as far as maintenance and stuff goes. I could make some $$$........... :uptosumpn:

I bought my Sable new in September of 1995. We needed a wagon because our youngest son was starting college, and we needed a comfortable car with hauling capacity to get him there. We chose the Sable over the Taurus because my wife thinks the Mercury is a little nicer than the Ford. (Yes, I know... , but I'm not going to argue the point.)
A mini-van was out of the question, as was an SUV. There's damned few domestic station wagons made any more.
Just for what it's worth, the best car I've ever owned was a 1987 Mercury Sable GS sedan. I put well over 120,000 miles on that Vulcan powered car, and I loved it until the day I traded it... :(

I personally bought the Sable because it's a relatively well rounded car, and even though it doesn't really do anything perfectly, it does each part well enough to suit most people's needs. The car has a good balance of power (with the 'tec, of course), handling, looks, and comfort. As I said, none of thosefour are the best in class, but overall, they're better than the rest of the class.

The reason I started looking at Tauri was, as Damon said, because I couldn't get a Mustang. Insurance is too expensive, gas is too expensive, etc. Being in college is not the time to be throwing money at a car, so I got a good, reliable car that gets better than average gas milage, and looks damn classy doing it!

I also was very close to buying a 99 Intrepid with 25K and the sport-matic (or whatever they call it) shift system, but the guys at Sansone Ford f-ed me over...they got theirs in the end from Ford though.

Definatley not for the resale value. Up until recently, I really wasn't into Tauruses other than the Gen II SHO. I thought the Gen III was hideous. I never saw one with a true body kit on it or even hooked up so I knew that it was out of the question. It sure as hell didn't look like me. I wanted a triple black 1997 Accord Wagon with a manual transmission and a sunroof like Jason Demery's. (see photo) I lost the bid for one at the auction and it's funny but paying $2000 for a car that only has 36,000 miles will do something to you. It will make you forget how ugly you think the car is especially after you visit TCCA! Then the fun becomes making something out of a car that most people see as nothing.

My dad always had ford trucks and my mom had chevy cars.

I grew up making my Chevy's faster and breaking them and doing it all over again. The only non GM I had was a Lexus.

I went from Buick as a salesmans car to my 94GL. I drove that thing for 240K before it finally blew the tranny.

Now I have two tauri and an F150 plus a Rodeo but no chevy's

It is amazing how things change as you age.

Well i ended up driving a sable as a rental after my Blazer was destroyed in 2001 and found out it would be a lot cheaper to insure then all the other vehicles i wanted to purchase so decided to go that route. I didn't know their potential until i found the TCCA last year. Man i'm glad i did, was getting bored not having an auto project to work on ;) and met lots of great people since then.

Because my SHO is my dream car! It's my wolf-in-sheep's clothing with an all too fun manual tranny. An astounding amount of people don't even know about the SHO, and the Yamaha engine. Most people just think it's a plain-jane Taurus with a spoiler. And let me tell you, I get an insane amount of glee showing off every last one of those 220 ponies when I smoke someone who thinks I just have a regular, old-manish family sedan. B) That, at least to me, is a lot more fun than just smoking someone in a Mustang GT (but don't get me wrong, I still love the Mustang). I live for that sort of jaw-dropping surprise.
