Which Quick Struts should I choose for the front of my 2000 Taurus?

Hello again bull owners,

A few months ago we swapped out my rear quick struts in my Taurus. We installed KYBs from Rock Auto. I would use this same brand up front, however I am concerned over the exaggerated heightened ride height. My rear after the changing of the struts is way up in the air now, which I like. It gives the car the appearance of about leap forward in a way. Haha

Anyways, I`d like to hear what brands you guys have used in the past. I like the height of it right now, but the struts are banging, and I`d like to swap them out before they puncture the tire and/or blow out. I`d get the KYB`s, but personally I don`t think the Taurus looks good as a 4x4.. However if anyone has experienced a height difference when it comes to the KYBs Front to Back please let me know.

Thanks Bullheads. -Jon.

Can you remember which KYB rear struts you put in? Is that the SR4011?
For the front, I used the following models:
KYB SR4009.
KYB SR4011.

Good luck!

KYB.

Replaced my worn rear struts that was causing my car to be loose in the back, it felt like the rear end was trying to pass me. New struts worked great, car feels safe to drive again, I would highly recommend KYB.

I stick with the Monroe 171615(better of the two options from Monroe), I also just found the same exact strut assembly with a different name--Shoxtex, they use the same manufacturer as Monroe and, for example, the rear assembly 271616(Police/Taxi pkg, premium) from Monroe, which is no longer made, found out directly from Monroe but 171616(Standard premium) is still being made, Shoxtec price for the rear assemblies(271616/pair) $133.00 on Amazon, what's left out there for the Monroe 271616, on eBay, $120.00-$200+ for each one, check them out, Good Luck.

I had a small shop replace my '03 Sable due to broken spring and mid winter and I could not do myself. They used Monroe and the front is 1 1/2 inch too high vs spec. Bit harsh too.
I bought two sets of OE from RA on closeout for ~$50 per. One set on '03 Taurus and they are fine. OE ride, spec ride height. Other set will go on my Sable when I get a chance. Then re-adjust the head lights.

This is what happened last time I used OEM, the tire was a Michelin MXV4 $175 down the tubes, my 01 SES rides beautifully (after a week of break-in) and handling is far superior, height didn't change for me. The Police issue Ford cars come with Monroe premiums, good enough for PDs good enough for me.

I'd prefer giving my business and have others give theirs to Rock Auto, but I had to buy mine via Amazon. Between the price and free shipping, I couldn't pass it up.

Mine are on the front of my 1999 wagon. I bought the Monroe Shocks & Struts RoadMatic 181615. It felt really good when I installed them in Jan or so 2019; when I took the car, fully laden down (inside and in a roof mounted carrier) from Oakland, CA to Hartford, CT in July 2019, and it still drives well today. Right now they're at Amazon for $66 and change each. Here's what it looked like laden down and near the salt flats, and another 2 more recently. The silver wheels are 17s with tires a little too short (225/45-17), the black wheels are 18s with 245/45-18.

I'm about to do my 2004 Taurus with 138K and a saggy rear end so I'm glad to find this thread with KYB part numbers.

Should I replace the springs at the same time with this mileage and age? What has everyone else done?
Yes, definitely, those springs are one of the reasons why the car is sagging, definitely get the complete strut assembly which ever brand you go with, it will bring the rear end back up again. Good Luck.
That is the piece I was talking about, different companies have other names for them, Quick Struts are Monroe's name for them, but They are the ones that are 'complete strut assembly' hope it helps.
