I was looking over a few things and decided to check the sticker on the door. The date says 08/96. However, the title says 97. Is this a 97, or a 96? Im assuming it is a 97 because 08/96 falls on the year after as far as sales go?

I am a bit curious. Thanks.

Most likely it is a 97...manufacturers always start production of next year's model 3/4th's of the way into the previous year.

our 98 was built in late 97 for use in a fleet, but its title states that it is indeed a 98 model year car

Remember that model year and production year do not always match. A way to tell for sure is to look under you hood at the VECI sticker. It tells you what year model your car is. Or the 10th digit of your VIN.

you can tell from the interior:
in 97, the little caps over the screws in the door handles went away
the courtesy lights in the doors got replaced with reflectors
if you have a floor shifter, the gear indicator in the instrumetn cluser went away

gained in 97, the little net thing in the driver and passengers side doors.

if you have that stuff, its a 96, if thta stuff is missing, and you have the little nets on the doors, its a 97

I work at a nissan dealership. so if your tag in the door says anything like 6/97 or newer its the next model year unless otherwise stated. like in the title of the car. so your 8/97 is a 98 and so would anything from 6/97 to 5/98 would be a 98. so anything past mid year is next years model

I would deffinately say it would be considered a 97 for the model year.

be nice now... <_< He knows what year it is "supposed" to be, but he has sources of info that conflict and he just wants to make sure... geez

Check the emmissions sticker under the hood. It says the car has to comply with the emmissions for it's model year. The sticker is on that plastic board over the radiator. The build date of my car is like September 1994, but the emmissions sticker and title list it as 1995.

My 1991 SHO has a 6/91 build date and it is GEN I. Because I had such a late build date it came with the rod shifter and a plastic hood although it is not a plus.

Yours is a Gen 1.

86-91 = Gen 1

92-95 = Gen 2

96-99 = Gen 3

00-05 = Gen 4
