I have the Mach in my taurus and my dad has the Mach 460 in his Mustang. His has more wattage (460 watts vs. 200 watts). The Taurus Mach system WILL NOT allow you to distort the sound waves. It only goes loud enough to sound good. The Mach 460 on the other hand goes louder and has alittle better bass, but will distort at higher volume levels.

The only real significant thing in the Mach setup is the tweeters, imo. I have the "base stereo" in my mustang and I added the Mach 460 tweeters to it. It really helped the highs and the aftermarket non-amplified speakers sound better than either Mach setups, imo.

mach has a factory external amp, seperate tweeters in the front, and a sub in the back. Its been a few years since I sold ford and I dont think there was too much difference in the stang mach and the taurus.
all gen 3's had external amps in the trunk. the mach ausio had the 6x9 amped sub in the rear deck, and the tweeters in the door sails. Some non-mach sound systems have the tweeters, thoug (mine does). Ford had a JBL system in 96, but switched to the mach system in 97.

I'm going to have to check mine again, but I'm pretty sure there is no SW even though I have the Mach system. When I do the radio self test I get nothing from the sub.
