Hey everybody. I just got a new set of rims off ebay. Their 17x7 and I just need to know what kind of tire and what size I should use. I own a 98 Mercury Sable. Any information you could give me would be great.

Also, what do the 3 numbers mean? Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

Using her example

255/60/16

255 = width in mm

60 = % of width for the sidewall

16 = size of rim

For tires, go to tirerack. They have a calculator that will figure out what size you would need to keep stock size.

well, now that I know how to read the 3 numbers, can anyone tell me a good combination that would work with my new rims? Their 17x7 rims with a 40mm offset.

I'd go with 225/50-17's due to the fact that it keeps the same overall wheel diameter. This keeps your speedo accurate (to within a couple mph). Plus, you won't compromise ride quality too much and still get better handling due to the plus-sized tire/rim combination. Just my $.02
