I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 automatic GL. I bought the car used in 1998. I have never had the A/C system serviced. It works but now my a/c system is taking longer to get cold. It isn't real bad but I think it might be getting low on freon. The problem is I don't know what kind of system I have with my car. Is it a R-12 or R-134a a/c system? How can I find out?

Look at the low-pressure side connecting port. If the cap is black, it's probably R-12, if it's blue, it was retrofitted to R-134a. Hopefully it's R-134a, becouse if it's R-12, it will need to get retrofitted, and that can get expensive.

The AC systems were changed on late 93 models and totally done on the 94 models. :)
