I know this is a car club forum, but I figured, we don't have many tech. or computer related threads, so I thought i'd start one by writing a little about my new notebook, and then passing it off to everyone else to keep it going. I recently purchased a 12" iBook G4 for college, and I must say, I don't think I'll ever buy another PC again. I'm in love with OS X and this has been one of the better machines i've ever owned. Here are some stats:

12" iBook G4
Mac OS 10.3.4 Panther
1.07ghz G4 Processor
512mb DDR SDRAM (eventually will be upped to 1GB)
Combo Drive (DVD-CD RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 (32mb)
40GB Ultra ATA HD

I also have a custom built PC, but to be honest, i'm not 100% sure what the specs are on it, i'll have to get back to everyone on that.

So, what's your computer setup?

This is what my computer area looks like right now, though it changes quite often. There are 2 computers running the 5 monitors and 1 TV (with a PCI tuner card). The configuration changes quite often, but right now, 2 monitors are on a FX5900SE with a P4 2.4GHz. The other is a P4 2.0GHz with a GF2MX200 in the AGP running one monitor, a GF4MX440 in a PCI slot running 2 monitors, and a Hauppauge PVR-350 as a PVR (personal video recorder) for my TV. Each rig has 1GB of DDR memory (the 2.4 is running PC2700, the 2.0 is only PC2100). Both are Intel mobos with the 845 chipset. I've got 480GB of HD space.

I'm waiting for PCI-express, then I'll be upgrading several pieces, and end up with 3 PCs.

I need a new monitor soon, though. My 19" CRT is a piece of crap (KDS 195somethingorother). I just cant decide if I should buy one of these new 19" LCDs, or save some cash and buy another CRT.

Haha, and I thought my desk was getting a little crowded. I've got my PC, my notebook, a 20inch flatscreen TV which is hooked up to my PS2, Dreamcast, and Gamecube (so I have my little game and work stations side by side). I have another TV in my room two, a 27 inch, but i only use it for movies (pay per view and such) and regular tv use. I'll take pictures once I clean this area up.

It's a cheap desk and it is showing signs of strain from that heavy-a** KDS.

Here is a pic from a few months ago.

I've always been a Mac guy, so it's logical that I have a PowerBook for college (it runs MATLAB well enough for me) Good call on the Mac, smc. I'll one up you though.

15" PowerBook G4
Mac OS 10.3.4 Panther
1.25GHz G4 Processor
1GB DDR SDRAM (PC 2700)
SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 (64 MB)
80GB Ultra ATA HD @ 5400 RPM

Comes with the illuminated keyboard (don't knock it, it's really awesome), two USB2 ports, FireWire 400 and 800, DVI, Gigabit ethernet, Bluetooth, 802.11g integrated, etc... I also manage to pull three hours of battery life on this thing too, which is pretty spiffy.

Good to see another Mac guy on the boards.

Haha, that's quite alright with me :p. My iBook is all I need. I don't need mine for gaming (I'm a console gamer), I don't work with 3D rendering, I do a little photoshop, but nothing too major. the main thing I need this for is school work, and writing music, which it's plenty powerful enough for both. I was contemplating a Powerbook but for what I need it for, I couldn't justify the $400 or so increase in price. I figured, I could put that extra money into software or even books for college. The iBook is more powerful than I thought it would be, I'm glad I waited until after Apple "speedbumped" them up. :D

Edit: Oh yeah, I've got you beat on battery life! I'm getting about 4 or a little over. :p

Oh smc (and anybody else who has a Mac). If you happen to use Safari (there's no reason you shouldn't), check out Pith Helmet. Nifty little thing that elimates ALL ads from web pages. No, not just popups, but banners, flash overlays and the such too. A very, very nifty plugin if you asked me.
