I have a 2001 Duratec. The water pump is driven by a belt from a camshaft and is on top of the motor. I have never seen a single post at TCCA mentioning any maintenance or problems with these pumps. Are they so reliable that nobody ever replaced one, even the little belt? I'm just curious about this beastie! I have 80,000 miles on it.

Waterpump is still going AOK with 145K miles..course mine is a 2k... I have seen a couple posts on people replacing the belt on an 01+ waterpump, but nothing about replacing the pump itself.

the contours had problems with the impellers disintegrating and i think ford learned their lesson and made them much better by the time the taurus got the cam driven pump. mine has 20k miles on it and the belt looks brand new yet even 6 years later.
