2002 Taurus wagon SEL. 3.0 Vulcan. 58,000 miles.

Rear hatch glass that opens. Just the glass. Not the entire hatch. Rear glass does not lock or connect. Can lock entire vehicle but the back glass does not lock. The entire rear hatch does lock but the rear glass part does not latch or lock. .

The lock mechanism for the tailgate itself works, but the rear glass lock doesn't. Also the courtesy light when opening the door stopped working at the same time as when the rear glass stopped locking. All doors will lock unlock with FOB. Rear glass does not lock as it does not shut tight. It closes and stays closed. Just does not latch or lock.

Any suggestions.

Try lubing the latch mechanism, try pressing down on the window after closing it? Latch on window not descending far enough into mechanism, etc.

Thanks for the input Shugi.
Have tried all. Gentle shut. Hard shut. WD-40. Will not latch/shut.
On another completely different note - the interior lights come on when any door is opened.

But still no latch/shut rear glass. Wagon.

Two metal washers.
Went to hardware store. Purchased two metal round washers.
Unscrewed handle on glass. Two screws. Took off. Placed the two washers on then handle. To extend the U shaped connector/latch. That was enough extra distance to make the latch connect.
Rear glass window now closes properly. No more red dash light / door ajar. Interior lights go off properly.
Fixed.
