Sometimes when cruising between 45-55 for about 2-4 seconds, my car will give a forward/backward jerk. It does it very very intermittently, so it is impossible for me to take it to ford and make them diagnose it, let alone fix it
I am used to it by now since I expect it to occur and it doesn't seem life threatening. However, while driving home today, the car did it again, but this time very violent. Unfortunatly, it did not self destruct (which would would have made my day
), but instead scared the crap out of me. I try to look at the rpm when this happens, but there is no fluctuation.

I'll check the trans fluid tomorrow. Anyone know what else to check?

Does it do it when shifting in between gears, because if so, it could be your torque converter going apes*** on you.

I had a 92 Taurus that did this. I would have sworn it was the transmission. I took it to AAMCO. They said the transmission was fine. They said I had a problem with my engine.

I then changed my distributor cap and plug wires. Problem solved. The problem had been occuring for about 1 year. Try wires and distributor cap. Worked for me. I think I also had a tach in the car and I didn't notice a change in it when the jerking occured. Thats what made me think it was the transmission.

I'm suspecting the problem happens on tc lockup, but I'm not sure. I'm still wondering if its worth the time and money to get an obdii scanner and do some real time recording while driving. Checked trans fluid and its A-ok.

FYI, the stupid pos stalled on me today
I can't wait until june when the tc comes out, or maybe go for the mazda6 if my parents chip in and cosign for 0% apr, or maybe i should go for a used 97 m3  .....sigh.....

I had a similar problem as drmurdoc on my '93. I swore I was having TC lockup problems but it was actually a misfire from a crappy cap. Slight misfires often will not be noticed until after the TC locks up, when you get that direct connection between engine and wheels.

Hmmmm...this is interesting. My car sometimes misfires at idle when the rpm's drop. The thing is that I started noticing this problem after ford put a rebuilt trans in my car. But I'm not quick to rule out misfiring because my car sometimes hesitates at 4000 rpm, as if something is holding it there, then all of a sudden it feels like "vtec" kicks in and the car has power. Plugs and wires are ~12k old and that did not take care of the problem a while back. I have about 2k miles on my new cam position sensor.
