This seems to have begun after I added a quart of fluid to bring it up to the proper level. Every time the torque converter locks up the car shutters or vibrates. It shifts fine but it seems a little harsh on the driveline. Any idea(s) what could be causing this?

Old/bad fluid is my first wild guess, but seeing as how you didn't post your car information that could be relative like "99 Taurus with AX4N" we can't get more specific.

Your axle code will be on the door plate. There's a lookup in the encyclopedia to see which one you have.

Sorry, 2000 SEL with the 3.0 Duratec motor and the axle code is X.
