Yesterday on my way to work i was sitting at a light idling and I notice the temperature shoot up. When the light changes I go to look for a parking lot to pull in and i see that the temperature returns to normal almost instantly.

I am still driving it and whenever I idle, the temperature goes up and as soon as i start to move it goes right back to normal, so it wasn't a one time thing. I am thinking it could be the thermostat or water pump what do you guys think it is?

are your radiator fans coming on?

It could be the water pump, but i would suspect other stuff first.

i had that problem while i was on vacation in florida. probably the thermostat sticking, but i'd check the easy stuff first. make sure there's plenty of fluid. low fluid will cause it to overheat at idle, but the wind when you move will cool it right back down.

check the fans too.
