This has possibly been addressed on this forum. Can anyone break down the trim levels as applied to the Taurus cars, as in the differences between the G, GL, SE, SES, SEL, etc. Not to slight the SHO people, but most of us know what that car is! All four of my 1996-7 Taurus' are GL, both sedans and wagons. My newest ride is a 2001 Taurus SES sedan, needing some TLC.(A vandalized repo). (See my requests in Parts Needed).

Here is a link to the trim packages for 1986. Use it to navigate for all years 1986-1999. Once you get to 2000, there will be a link to transfer you to the order guides for 2000-2007. This will break down the trim levels with the options available.

For the gen 4's, from lowest to highest model, it was LX, SE, SES, SEL.

For G3's, I believe it is:
G
GL
LX
SHO

You are partially correct.
those are the sub-models for 96 & 97, For 98 & 99 it was:
LX (same as 96 & 97's G)
SE (which could be either like 96 & 97's GL or LX
SHO



And for all G3 Sables it was:
G
GS
LS

I think it split in '98 though for the Bulls. I think the low was the SE and the top was the LX, just those 2 models were available...someone can correct me if I am wrong.
I think 96-97 was G GL LX , 98-99 was LX base SE mid and SE comfort (no badge different)was the high line option for those years.

Yeah, you have that backwards. I have seen '98 SE's just like a low optioned GL and I have seen SE's like a fully loaded LX.

You're not doing anything wrong. It's just when the new management took over, all the old links broke and no one fixed them.

Mine still has the wires and the mount for the phone but the antenna is gone.-_-

I have a 2000 Ses DOHC 24 valve 3.0 , transmission will not shift into O/D been maintenanced every 30,000. No codes in computer and have checked valve body for broken clip,no broken clip found.
Any other things I could check, been a great car, it just turned 196,000 miles and still runs really good and this started.
