TRANSMISSION TROUBLE

hello to all, I have a 1999 Taurus lx and the transmission will not go into reverse or drive. it happened in the same day to not work. so not knowing what to do, I unplugged a white colored electrical connection on top of the transmission. it was behind the battery and in front of the shift sensor or rather between the two of them, after that the car will go in reverse engaging slowly and in drive it go's just fine. I changed the v.s.s. but it did not make a difference. help! any suggestions? hope I don't need another transmission.

Our fords have a splined shaft that is concentric to the torque convertor. It has a common habit of getting stripped. You have no hydraulic pressure, since this stripped shaft powers the fluid pump within the trans.
Trans has to be pulled I am pretty sure.
A weakness in Ford design, so they say!

It might be electrical. in the fuse box in the front of the motor, look at fuse 28, if it is blown then thats where you start looking. that fuse it tied to trany shift soleniods, oxygen sensor heaters and more. I took the blown fuse out and hooked up my test light to the + battery terninal and the pointed part to the right side of the fuse socket. It was light so it proved there was ground. I started shaking things like o2 sensors and what ever else I could reach till the light went out.. that traced were the short was. fixed that and it's been running great since.
