i have a 97 ford taurus that i am having to start problems with. when i drive at low speeds my transmission(ax4n) shifts fine but the faster or harder i take off its seems to slip from 2nd to 3rd. takes off fine in 1st and shifts good into 2nd but then seems to slip. are these transmissions still affected by vaccum when they shift? any help would be appreciated>

These transmissions are completely computer controlled. Check your fluid level and it's condition. The fluid should be red as it appears on a paper towel. It's level should be within the marked area on the dipstick with the engine running at operating temperature and the transmission in neutral. If the fluid appears brownish and/or has a burnt smell it needs to be changed.

Most transmission shops offer a free road test nad diagnosis.
