Hello.
I've just bought an oil for the automatic tranny in my 1993 3.0 OHV Taurus.
I've asked for a Mercon-V, but the salesman told me to take Type-M.
I bought a 12 botlle pack and still didn't opend it yet.
My question is if i can use this Type-M oil in my tranny.
The oil is motorcraft's!
here some pics of the pack:

The salesman is WRONG. 100% WRONG!!!!

Clearly on the bottles for type M fluids it states:

DO NOT USE THE FLUID</span>

I would only use Mercon V, which is a synthetic blend offering much better protection and anti-shudder characteristics than Mercon. Personally, I'd recommend that you use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, which is a full synthetic ATF meeting all Mercon and Mercon V requirements. I've used it for years in my AX4N transmission and power steering unit--it's awesome. It's ideal for the weather in Tel Aviv. God bless.

I shouldn't use Synthetic oil because of the tranny age, but nevermind. the Mercon is good enough
But what do you say about the Xcel oil?

I believe it's made by Amalie--it should be fine. I'd drop and clean the pan, change the filter, and change the fluid every 24,000 miles or 24 months, whichever comes first.

You can use any brand of tranny oil as long as it says it meets Mercon and Mercon V specs. :thumb:
