Could anyone give me some ideas what it could be, I have a 93 Taurus GL 3.0L AT and when im going aprox. 25 or around there and i put the peddle to the ground and then let off quick my tranny makes a very loud CLUNK noise, its really unresting, could anyone tell me what they think it might be? Thanks much.

Here's what you do:

Raise the hood.

Start the engine.

Keep your left foot firmly on the brake pedal.

Shift into Drive while watching the engine through the gap under the back edge of the hood. The engine shouldn't move more than an inch or two.

Shift into Reverse and do the same thing.

If the engine is moving a lot, the clunk you hear is a broken motor mount. If the engine isn't moving too much, the clunk could very well be a subframe bushing. In either case, you are much better off than if the trans is actually making the clunking noise.
