Have you ever held an exhaust manifold in your hand and looked at one? I cannot think of a stronger component on the motor. Plus it is ideally located at the front center of the motor.

Mine has withstood at least 150 1/4 mile runs and two days at Summit Point without any signs of wear or fatigue.

You do not want to add a pre load to the motor mounts. When the car is not moving you want the engine to rest with no strain on it from any direction. When you have the chains tight you are adding stress down the line (transmission) that will take up the wear. Always have a bit of slack on the torque strap/chain.
