I have read all the articles regarding torque straps, and i'm wondering if its possible with Gen III, cause all the articles pertained to Gen I-II. if anybody has done this can they send me some pics. thanks

I have two on my 97. One on passenger side, one on driver's side.
Is there any other place besides the exhaust manifolds that I could attach the chain to?? Hooking it up to the maniolds sounds kinda iffy.
You could probably weld the chain to the block if you don't want to use the exhaust manifold. Have you looked at the manifold though? It's pretty thick and sturdy, and I think it has about 6 bolts holding it down(vulcan manifold might be different).
No, the vulcan manifold is pretty beefy too, just a little more open than the tech's. Our cars have a little more room in the engine compartment because the heads arent ginormous. i will try to find another spot, and if i am unsucessful, the manifold it is.
Remember, just because there's room to bolt the chain on doesn't mean it's a safe spot. I can't remember who did it, but somebody using an alternate mounting spot and the loop method and ended up hosing up his subframe pretty good. How come you're reluctant to use the manifold?
althought i love the idea of torque straps, i have to agree with mike, i don't think the manifold is such a great place to attach it. beefy or not when that engine torques i don't want any of the stress put on tha manifold itself.
I used the transmission lift loop as the engine attachment. it is on the river's side, near the battery box.

What? I have mine bolted to the manifold, and I haven't had any problems yet.

I agree.
Have you ever held an exhaust manifold in your hand and looked at one? I cannot think of a stronger component on the motor. Plus it is ideally located at the front center of the motor.

Mine has withstood at least 150 1/4 mile runs and two days at Summit Point without any signs of wear or fatigue.

hey id like to see some pics of where u put them on for both the driver and passenger sides did u just use the exhaust manifold for both? well anyway some pics would be nice if possible thnx
unfortunately, I don't have a digital camera; but I will try to explain them to you. The one on the driver's side wraps around the subframe under the radiator, and bolts through the transmission liftpoint bolthole. It is on the top front side of the transmission, just below and to the left of the batery box. The other also wraps around the subframe, and goes through the lower alternator/ A/C mounting braket on the engine block. the braket is right next to the exhaust manifold. I also ran a bolt through both sides of the chain (making the each loop look like a figure eight), so that I could tighten the straps and pre-load the motor mounts. I hope this helps.
You do not want to add a pre load to the motor mounts. When the car is not moving you want the engine to rest with no strain on it from any direction. When you have the chains tight you are adding stress down the line (transmission) that will take up the wear. Always have a bit of slack on the torque strap/chain.

yeah thanks i get the idea now itll be easier once i take a peek on my own. I noticed that it says that u had a P&P done, did u do it urself and if so how did it go anything negative u have to say bout it?
