FYI a genIII SHO can hit its governed top speed of 144 mph in 3rd gear. ;)
So I want to hit the limiter just once! I didnt know you could hit the limiter in 3rd.. by those speeds I've engaged overdrive. I guess I should have paid more attention to the tach and speed.. :x: JK!

Xavier you going "out there" Friday?

120's 97 SHO

145 03' Jaguar at 3 am on a back country road (wasn't driving....quietly pissing myself in the backseat. Kept seeing a deer walking out into the road  )

I did 144 with stock programming, a few times.

A few nights ago I had the niddle directly on the 150 and i ran out of road.

I think it had room for 155 or a little more, or so it felt.

150 is fucking fast, i couldn't even see the breaks in the centerline :|

Wouldn't a non-sho taurus or even a sho run out of RPM before it got that fast?
Technically the gearing is there for 190- 200 mph... I did the math at some point but forgot what the heck the exact number was. But good luck trying to get there, lol. You'll need oodles and oodles of power. Once you have power you'll have to figure out how to keep the car on the ground... lol. IIRC Carter Fuji with a supercharged SHO hit like 170+mph on a dyno but didn't want to push it further what with the thought of flying through the wall at 170+ mph. FYI a genIII SHO can hit its governed top speed of 144 mph in 3rd gear. ;) Non SHOs have a different final drive so it's top speed would not be as high, theoretically speaking of course. Not to mention a vulcan or essex won't rev nearly as high as a SHO can.

The fastest i've been on a closed course... was 135 mph in my SHO. I let off before I hit the limiter. [/b][/quote]
jarod had mine at 141 on the dyno in 3rd a few weeks ago.

Yeah you could. I did my 135 in 3rd gear, still had some RPM to work with. B)

I might be going "out there" Friday... why, are you looking for a little revenge?  Just messing with you, :p.

A little over 100 MPH (3 seperate times) in my Sable. It's bone stock except for a K&N. It's mad scary when it starts shaking and shuddering at the higher speeds. It has never hit the governer. It just seems to mellow out after 100 MPH and starts cruising even when floored. I think I got to about 110 MPH in a rented Windstar.

in a winstar ?

damn I can't take my mom's caravan over 95 because its already shaking like hell and can't go straight. I feel that with that much vibration the steering wheel will pop out and stay in my hands  btw, all wheel a new, nicely aligned at the 4 wheels, kinda wierd

You could just borrow my SHO - no governor. Gotta love chips.

I've hit 144 in my SHO. It was before I had it chipped. I haven't tried 150+ yet - It'll obviously have to wait until summer.

damn he is alive. :)

were those speeds drag limited, fuel limited, or backing out of the throttle?
The car wouldn't pull any more, it wasn't going any faster than that and I was on a very slight decline. (I got on 40 W off 1st street downtown and got on it until about the weigh station across the bridge.)

111 MPH on a dark country road, mostly straight with no critters around (that I saw).

And she had plenty of go left, and was maintaining speed at about 4000 RPM. But that was probably fast enough, being about 2.5 x posted speed limit. God, I love my 'tec.

I fell out of a tree once about 23 feet.

It felt like I was going pretty fast when I hit the ground

Does anyone know what the formula for that is?

Mike
:lol2:
9.8 meters/second squared.

Good thing you fell on your head, not much to hurt there! :p :D

The car is telling you to wake up and kiss your butt goodbye, because you're going agricultural again.

Anyhow, enough of the ball busting.

91 SHO- buried the speedo (140) a few times. I discovered a few weeks ago that I need a new driver's axleshaft this way. :noes:

97 SLO- At least 120, trying to keep up with Kirk Doucette and Fred Hurder when we went to Lapeer in '03. I had the utility trailer on it too, with a load full of SARC struts for Paul Nimz. Needless to say, I was going downhill.

87 Suburban- According to Flamingo, at least 100. I was chasing him up 146N when he had his SHO.

How about a different category too? Fastest speedo reading without the car moving. For me, that would be about 90, with Flamingo's '98 Lexus GS400. Fiery death!

In 3rd, 144 is no problem. In O/D it would take FOREVER to get up to 144. You need the torque advantage of the lower gear since drag increases exponentially. It would take a lot of road to top 150 in a SHO, and I don't think you could do it in O/D. At 140+, if I drop into O/D, the car quits accelerating. At 145+ you'd probably lose speed if you shifted into O/D, even at WOT. It's hard to imagine "bogging" the motor at 5K+ rpms, but drag is a very powerful force at those speeds.

eh here are a couple other numbers, none of which goin past triple digits...

in the old 95 escort i wound the lil 88hp 4 cyl up to about 95-maybe 100 (speedo was on the fritz) on US 224 near the Rubber Bowl (UofA football stadium) i can say this that little car was never meant to go that fast :noes:

once in my mom's 97 E150 she has had it up to almost 95 while on a vacation, i look up from the tv in it and look over her shoulder to see the speedo and its gettin close to peggin itself out, i never knew taht 5.4L triton could do it, esp when loaded with 3 ppl and a sh*load of luggage..

the fastest i have been in my dad's 95 Dakota V6 was about 75-80 while goin camping, scarier in that thing then in the escort with all the wind noise...

My old '87 Astro van. The speedo was marked up to 85. On my way to work on the 22 I used to bury the needle and then some. So I was probably doing well over 95 when a motorcycle cop came up on my side, flashed his lights/siren, wagged his finger at me and then handed me a new one by taking off like I was standing still. I swear, he didn't pull me over - all he did was wag his finger at me.

As far as my Taurus, no more than 80mph since it starts to wander and shake so bad I think it's going to fly apart.
