Well, I guess ads are better than paying for the use of the forum...
True thou, there has to be a balance and target. That is Google ads for you. The ads you see are different from the ones I see, based on what you browse/search. I see Advance Auto Parts.

We have tools to fight against ads. Don't make us use them :)
Hint: host file, 127.0.0.1...

"I guess ads are better than paying for the use of the forum..." Have you ever noticed when you're at the Google page how clean it is?

The knowledge base is greater and more valuable among all of us than the ads ever will be. Ads does not add value to this forum IMHO, its clutter and white noise.

The owner needs the money to pay the server/bandwidth. And maybe make some for his vacation, nothing wrong there :)
If you don't agree - you have at least two options shown above.

Firefox with ABP

Use Firefox with Ad Blocker Plus. I don't see any ads what so ever. None.
Exactly, I only see content with Firefox and it's add block system. I have Mac and I use Safari too!! Safari does not block as well as Firefox. Just my thoughts, 2.

The ads I'm referring to are the embedded ads, not the pop-up ads. Can you filter embedded ads? I don't think so.

I never really seen them as that big of a problem. Just about every site you go to has a few here and there. On this site there's one at the top of the page and one at the bottom. That doesn't seem like overload to me and I've never had my internet slow down because its trying to load an ad, never.

10. Hamsters. Really? Do we need hamsters ads on this forum? What does hamsters have to do with anything? I'd rather see bare naked ladies (no phat chicks).

Almost all web browsers have the ability to add extensions.

Almost everyone who uses the internet complains about ads, here, there, everywhere.

Almost all computer tech programmer nerd people things have made an extension to block them.

Download one, it doesn't just help this site, but almost any one you visit.

I have Chrome, I don't see ads, just my two cents.

Roach - how did you configure your Chrome browser to block ads?

JohnLemmon - thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go for Ubuntu.

I use Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) OS with either Aurora Browser or Chrome. I've been using Aurora lately because its wicked fast.

Go to the little wrench thing in the top right corner.

Tools> Extensions...

Click "Get more extensions" on the bottom right of the screen that pops up....

On the page that loads, search the site for "AdBlock"

The first one [It's free, has a stop-sign with a hand in it] is the choice, click it, install, reload.

Easy. :D
