While I was changing my oil today I found something a little disappointing.

I have been finding small drips of "something" on my garage floor for a while and I chalked it up to my clumsiness while doing oil changes. But today I was under there waiting rather impatiently for the oil to quit dripping and I started looking around. I found small drops on the bolts for my transmission pan and tried the bolts and found about half of them loose. The fluid was always in the hatching area on the dip stick so I did not notice any loss.

I had the fluid changed about 15,000 miles ago and it looks like they did not tighten them properly. I snugged them up, not too tight, but tighter than they were and I hope that will stop the problem. It also looks like a cork gasket was used and not the original rubber one.

I will be mentioning this if I ever go back there! Might be worth checking after your next transmission service.

Go grab a Motorcraft gasket. Those cork ones are junk.
