WELL OF COURSE FIND THE PROBLEM AFTER HAVING TO TAKE BOTH HEADS OFF!!!

broken valve wtf.. smashed up plug as well not sure if better to but in new valve and gaskets or just get a rpl used motor with 59k for around $550 this motor had 117k on it.

either way gonna be a bitch have about 7 hours into tear down, so about 14 total if rpl gaskets and valve. might go back together quicker but who knows

Since Vulcan is not an interference engine, piston cannot hit the valve. I am not a pro and don't know why a valve breaks. Maybe bad metallurgy? Valve/seat didn't match?

Just curious. Where was the broken-off piece? Inside the cylinder?

Get that valve out and check to see if it burned on the backside. It's possible that a lifter or spring stuck or a pushrod jammed, but if the valve burned then that explains the fractured metal.

so do you suggest just replacing the valve and head gaskets then?
