Ok, I SWEAR this wasn't on there before, but I went through the build your ford process and the Sport option on the SES is available!
It is a little different as they do not have monochromatic (body color) spears, because the 04's don't have a front one, and the back is now monochromatic anyway. Still cool though

I don't care as much for the 04 facelift

Still cool to see the sport around though

Why not an 02? They deleted some good stuff in the 03
One reason I am glad I have the 02. The did both really, they added some sound deadening in 03, and lighted cruise buttons, but decontented more... got rid of secondary visors, rear air vents, and light in the glove box.

Yes, the rims are

Don't forget they deleted the passanger side key-hole in the front door, and they deleted the trunk lid trim and the rear shelf trim in the trunk. I had a link from ford that had all the stuff they de-contented, but the link doesn't work anymore. I posted that link on the old forum, but it is now a dead link. I have reason to beleave that the 04's were de-contented more, but a could be wrong.

Why aren't they putting some friggin fog lights in those PERFECT holes for them in the new bumpers??
That would be awesome to make fogs standard on the Sport. I personally like the new face lift
I would get an 02 Sport, add the 03 lit cruise buttons, do my own sound deadening and try to get the 04 bumper cover to fit (and look good), I'm guessing it would probably bolt right on. Then I would adapt some Sable fogs to fit those perfect holes in the bumper.
That would be my ultimate Gen 4.

you'd need a lot bigger fogs than sable fogs to fit those huge gaps. Sounds like a fun idea though.

is it just me or do the brake rotors look a bit rusty? But I'm glad to see that the sport lives

I know rotors get a light layer of rust on em but some one needs to move that poor car around and burn it off (a few hard stops should do the trick) before someone comes to look at it, they might not think that it is normal.

It only take a good rain storm to rust any factor rotor. That is just the way it is.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but what makes the Sport so special from other Gen4's? Is it just an apperance package or did they do actually change something to the car to live up to its billing?

They get the Duratec (higher powered engine, as I'm sure you know), rims, special leather/cloth combo seats, painted spears on front & rear, floor shifter, spoiler and I think climate control - do they get Mach audio? I may have forgotten something, if so somebody who knows for sure feel free to correct me. But I guess the basic answer to your question is it is mostly an appearance package.

The package has changed on the 04's... here is what it was from 02-03:

*Sport rims
*special two toned dark charcoal gray interior
*embroidered floor mats
*monochrome (body color) spears
*sport badging on fenders
*Pewter surrounds on the console and radio/climate (climate controls are manual b/c its an SES, auto climate was only on SEL)

Yes all sports are duratecs

As for 04, I know the spears are dropped because there is no front one, and all back ones are monochromatic.
