OK.. my 1994 GL has

AX4N SHO stamped into the pan..

is this an SHO ATX transmission?

which trannies are used in the SHO? 1994 1995 ATX only...

im asking cause i had my trans rebuilt last year in the GL, and if i swap and they are the same ill have a fresher trans in my 1994 ATX SHO,

I've seen a lot of Taurus with varying pans. I had one on mine that said one thing even the the tranny was something else. Look at the tranny code on top of the tranny to ID yours.

will do... is it something i can see while the trans is in the car? or something i have to look at after pulling it?

When I had my transmission rebuilt in my 97 Sable I remember I saw I white sticker with something on it and probably that was the transmission's info but I am not sure. It was under the thermostat housing but probably yours might not have the sticker - give it a look to see if it has it. Good luck.
