Can anyone suggest how to test a TPS sensor which appears to be either worn out or dirty .. I have 234000km and I have code for the TPS, EGR and the O2 sensor.

I think I will start at the TPS since its original and suspect.

What is the effect of running rich for too long???

B) Thanks

your throttle position sensor wont make you run rich. That just affects your shift points on an electronic transmission. if you are running rich your biggest culprit is usually an O2 sensor. But I would check your EGR valve to see if it is sticking if you are getting a code. The biggest problem with running rich is decreased gas milage, sooty plugs and sooty exhaust

If the TPS always indicates open throttle, does this not cause the computer to over componsate and supply more fuel??? I do not have a problem with shift points..

Also the O2 sensor if it indicates lean (which it does) the compute will continue to oversupply fuel at the injection.

Where on earth do you starty with emmissions problems?? Each peice is quite expensive and you could burn 100$s with no solution...

Can a voltmeter be used to find out whats going on???

Thanks
