I have a 94 GL, all stock, but for the moment I can't drive it, and I want to ask the pther GL drivers how the taurus react on the highway and on the acceleration.

For mine, The current owner of my car (my step-father) said he can go at 240 km/h (over 160mph) with his car.

do its possible ?

and I want to know about how the taurus can take the curves (with good 15inches tires) ?

thers no way he can hit 240KPH in it....mine (with the vulcan) ive had up to 170 downhill....aprox. 160-165KPH flat..........its a partially gutless car....but it serves my purpose as a 17 year old high school student just fine. On the highway if i want to pass from around 120 or so, it takes a second but then it picks up and goes.....so....its a really nice car for me.....im no cop magnet:)

I had a 92 Taurus LX with the Vulcan. The LX is probably heavier than the GL due to extra equipment (EATC, dual power seats, cornering lights, illuminated vanity mirrors, centre console, and more). It is the slowest car (acceleration wise) I have ever owned. It was absolutely gutless.

Markus, I think the engine was the culprit, not the trim level. Vulcan's are gutless. When people say "MaD VulCaN PoWAh", they're being sarcastic.

I like the 3.8 in my 'wagon. Good torque. Response could be improved, most notably at speed. No way it'll hit 160mph. You'd be damn lucky to hit 110. Fun at stoplights, especially if you left foot it.

do a taurus have a speed lock ? (I dont know if it is this word in english..)

because a few years ago, I was in a sunfire, limited a 180km/h and my friend in a 92 GL taurus have passed in front of us very easly, i think he was at 200 and more, I can't know exactly because his speedometer was not working.

SHO's can't even hit 240km/h. Believe me, I've tried. :D

2nd Generation Tauruses, barring the SHO, are governed (speed limited) at 108MPH, or 111MPH (it varied for some reason). The SHO is ungoverned, and can hit upwards of 145MPH, given enough highway. :)

I did about 105-110 in my '93 GL when I had it...Ran out of room to go any faster... Theres no way it'll go 160...just considering the gearing and RPMS you'd be lucky to get 120-130 before you brought the engine to its limit (redlined) I dont think I'd want to go 160 in a gen 2 GL anyways.... 125 in an escort is scary enough. (This is all MPH)

I have this same car, (although not green anymore)

When i first got it, it was *eh* -kinda so-so,

With some decent tires, good shocks and springs, made sure the swaybar endlinks were all good (my were actually disconnected when i got it, As in hanging free) =/

the car handles well, It has decent acceleration, Its got a nice low center of gravity, a fairly decent wheelbase and with some tinkering you can get the most possible out of your 3.0L vulcan, although i would assume nowhere near 160MPh, mine has 186,000Km's on it now and im lucky to hit 145Kph (88mph) on a nice long flat road, 150-160kph (95Mph) going downhill!!

However!! have hope!! look around and see what you can do!

:lol2:

I have a 94 gl, vulcan. Compared to the little mazda with a 1.6 that I was driving, this is nicely powered. No matter how fast I think I'm going, the speedo tells me I'm only going 85mph. ;)

The Vulcan engine isn't fast, but it's reliable. Take care of it and it will easily outlast the rest of the car.

I test drove a '97 that my mom's getting, mostly for driving around town, visiting her folks (nursing home runs), etc. I made sure to redline it on the test drive, it got there as fast as it could but compared to my 3.8 and my SHO... eh :p

I think of the Vulcan as the type of engine that's designed to not scare the driver with any sudden burst of acceleration... all in good fun guys, as there will soon be three vulcan-powered vehicles in my immediate family :D

I've driven my grandma's third gen, and we own a 95. The third gen has the vulcan and the 95 is a wagon with the 3.8. All in all, the wagon really has a lot more oomph off the line, but my grandma's car feels MUCH more balanced on the highway. The wagon doesn't 'want' to go fast, it seems to want to cruise along at about sixty, while the third gen sable will cruise along nicely at about 85 or ninety. It won't do over about 105 on the speedo, but that's okay, it's not mine. If asked which car I'd rather have, I think I'd take the vulcan, it seems like a slightly more 'balanced' engine/gear combo for every day driving, with better mileage.

On the other hand, it could just be the difference in aerodynamics between the two cars, the sedan is a bit sleeker and doesn't stick up off the road as much. I dunno.

i'll ask him to go test the car soon, and i will take my camera. Maybe is not the original transmission, and the engine was rebuilt 4 years ago.
