Hello everyone, i have a 06 vulcan that all of a sudden started squeeking under hood.
So i stop the car open the hood and the squeeking seems to be directly under the fuel rail in the front,
I get back in and rev the engine slowly to see if it correspondes with revs. it does not directly match the revs .
i continue home and it stops squeeding then a few days later it starts again, again it does not seem directly related to the revs, it is a high pitched intermittent noise (not a continus squeel like a belt) almost like a bird; in fact the first time i heard it it thought it was a bird!!
any ideas?
this is one for the birds!! (LOL)
i have to fix the camera shutter release mucked up (common with canon dsl) but i will get a pic showing where the noise is coming from

That is the camshaft synchronizer they fail on all vulcan engines only a matter of time. Rockauto.com has them for 80. less than the dealer cost. I replaced mine using the directions here on the the forum in about an hour or so, not too difficult.

It i located on drivers side of engine actually under a wide plastic wire harness/holder. It runs the oil pump down in the engine with a gear and gives the pcm the cam position signal with a sensor mounted on top.

Make certain you get the MOTORCRAFT part when replacing this part. The aftermarket synchronizers Dorman brand are known to, not fit 100% correctly, and also fail more quickly than the origional part does. Forum member had them refail in less than 20k miles.

damn! this is very disappointing with this taurus, i have had 6 tauruses since 1990 , including 2 sho and this one, the NEW one!! (06) has had more problems then the rest put together. last year the damn alternator went bad.
Thanks a million for the info, at least now I have some idea of what to do.

I haven't had the squeak nor any codes and mine is running strong at 150,000. Now that I have said that, I'm sure it will fail in a month :)

Yeah, fix it. I let it go too long and lost an engine to lubrication failure.

thanks for all the info and help especially MH488.
I did some reasearch and i got the best price on oem parts
It was at genuine ford parts .com who is west way ford in irving texas
the sensor and synchronize ( F8dz12a362AA, 1F1z6B288BA) were $130 out the door but only on line!!
I wonder if there is anything to be done to the part to make it last longer, i have a 06 with barely 60k miles.
this is the same taurus that had the alternatorr go bad in 09 (3 year old car!!!) and ford would not even cover the cost of the part

Don't let this upset you, I did my "02 Vulcan a long time ago and am now at 95K. Put 30-5200 in the Google search window, will find all you need to complete the job yourself.
If you can find a completely trouble free and auto you don't ever need to maintain, be sure to post on the site.

oh yes i understand that mechanical things will act up but i have had 6 taurii including 2 sho's 89 and 92 and none of them have had this much repairs other then the common stuff i.e. the 89 clutch because it was designed too small and the brake upgrade for the 89 (it was balck with the red pinstripe and i miss it!!)

wow that is impressive!! And yes you just jinxed yourself!! :lol2:

I think the synchro failed before 60k in my Taurus because my Bull sat around too much over the years with a car cover on it. My Grandparents lived in Arizona in a retirement community and had a golf cart to get around the neighborhood, only needed the Bull to travel to food store and such. From what I was told my Grammy never drove much over 45 mph anywhere she went. :D

You are welcome! :thumb: Glad you were able to get the Ford parts, they go right in and fit right. Sometimes aftermarket stuff is fine, in this case I went with the advice I got from TCCA members, and Im glad I did. :ford:
