I have a 97 GL, and just today after I start my car, it acts like it wants to die. The RPMs go up and down. I never let it die, because when I put it into gear it acts fine. I ran my last tank of gas until the gas light came on, then I filled er up with Premium. (The first time I have done this). It seems to want to do this every time I start it now. I changed the rear fuel filter, but not the front one. And I recently had the Fuel Injectors cleaned at a stealership. I don't know what could be causing this, and I was hoping you guys can help me..

Thanks

Vulcans dont die when you disconnect the IAC. Mine just slows the idle to about 700 (from 950). Or maybe its just my Vulcan.

(the rolls eyes is not to be a jerk its because my car doesn't normally do what it should do when a sensor is disconnected, like stall)

My wife drives a 2000 Vulcan. It was doing the exact same thing around 65k. It had original plugs/wires,etc. I replaced them and the problem was solved. Also going to replace fuel filter when I rehab from shoulder surgery.

FYI: I use Mobil 1 at 7500 interval and add Lube Control to oil and fuel power to gas at every fill-up.

Interesting. I have the same issue. Stupid thing was intermitent and the dealership couldnt find the issue before the warranty ran out. Mine only happens in idle and only now and then.

Oh.. and it ONLY happens when the fan thingamadoohcky is on. If I have the a/c/heater controls to OFF position, it never happens. BLAH!

2002 - ses
p.s., they could never find a prob with a voltage drop. I may, however, replace the fuel filter. Cars got 36,000 miles

i went up to a store on friday with my moms 99 vulcan, in the parkinglot, when i stated it up, i had the radio blasting, look at my gauges, and the check engine light and batt lights are on, so i started it up again, went to 1300rpm, then to 700 sputtered and died, tried again and it started and that was that. hasnt done it since, it has 54500mi on it and the warranty goes out soon

Yes SHOZ123, I have two fuel filters, one near the rear, and one near the front. Is this not normal?. Should I run some fuel cleaner through, or what? Come to think of it, I think I had the heater controls off. I don't see why this would cause any change though. If anyone knows whats wack with our vulcans, drop a post.

Thanks

WHAT??!?! there are 2 fuel filters?? i thought there was just one? in the 97. blah... now i can't even remember if the one i changed is in front or back... stupid memory..
on a sidenote, my car does the same thing. i'm gonna change the spark plugs again soon though. hopefully thats all it is. it also is starting to stumble when it gets to about 90mph. i think that has something to do with the EGR valve though. the check engine light went on the other day but by the time i went to go to Autozone the next day, it was already off.

It could be our very admissable trannies goin bad. Maybe a vaccuum leak too. Just thoughts. I have 2 fuel filters on my 97. I also have 2 seperate fuel lines, so I'm guessing a filter for each line. I believe if you remove the fenderwell piece on the front passenger's side, you'll be able to see the second fuel filter right behind the beginning of the "firewall." That is, if you have one.

The rear one is located on the passenger side, near the back door. You can't miss it. The front one is kinda by the oil pan. Sorry no pics.
