All the buzz with the svt heads on the Duratec has rekindled my interest in a possible head swap for the split port intake from the Windstar, or even possibly the 99 and up mustang. I know that the swap involves the upper and lower intake manifolds, as well as the heads and maybe the fuel rail and injectors, but are there any other significant differences between the older 3.8's and these newer engines? I'm talking about possible vaccum lines, sensors, ecu, and ignition. I know some of the T-bird guys that have done this swap had to either swap their iginition to DIS or find a way to make the newer top work with distributor ignition...
Oh yeah, the head swap done by these guys (as well as some 'stang owners over at v6power.net) involved the 99-up mustang heads which is a different physical design than the windstar. I think the Windstar is a more likely fit because it is based off of a FWD block like the ones in the Taurus.
Anyway, thoughts? Ideas? For now, I think it would be best to just focus on the engine design themselves and not worry about the usual "oh it won't fit under the hood" argument.
