Plugs slightly warmed up, running engine for 5 minutes, before removing them, or cold? What is the proper procedure? I know on a 3.5 to 3.7 Cyclone V6 , the vehicle should be warmed up for a few minutes, before plugs are removed. This is for a 3.0 in a 2007 Mercury Montego.

I do it cold but I will just loosen about a turn and then use compressed air to blow loose and dirt of rust. That makes reinstalling the plugs easier. I also use a piece of vacuum hose pushed on the terminal end of the plug and twist that to start the plugs. If the thread easy then that can't be cross threaded.

Vulcan is cast iron head while Cyclone is aluminum head. Iron head plugs are removed cold a Sheila said.

Remember to clear the engine codes or disconnect negative battery cable so the engine will
run calibrations with the new plugs.
