This problem is currently intermittent. Basically When I power on the car 'click the ignition switch all the way to start', the car idles fine then it randomly stalls as if nothing happened. the solution so far has been to simply start it again but I have never experienced this sort of problem before...random stall after starting. In fact its as if it just simply turns off, could it just be a bad ignition switch? Loose wire (dreading this lol...). This car has 34,000 miles and its 21 years old so the circumstances are kinda unique. The battery is brand new, new spark plug and wires. The idle speed is ussualy high which explains the odd 1-2 shift but perhaps the idle speed is related to this issue? The engine has always been running smoothly and has plenty of power. Any ideas are welcome lol.

Yes, there were a lot of bad ignition switches on 80's Fords. The lock cylinders themselves were OK, but the switch module in the column breaks up. The high idle is probably a big vacuum leak somewhere. At 21 years old every single piece of rubber could be rotted under the hood. Be prepared for the worst...
